Thank you for your inquiry on the Tidewater Electrical Industry's Electrical Apprenticeship Program. As an apprentice, you will be working side by side with a Journeyman Wireman. You will "earn while you learn" by recieving on the job training. Apprentices also attend classes two nights a week for five years. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will recieve your Virginia state journeyman electrician licence.
If you do not have all of the qualifications for the apprenticeship program, you can still be placed to work as a Construction Wireman. CW's work side by side with Journeymen as well as apprentices and Construction Electricians. You gain knowledge and skills of the trade, and can advance through on the job training. Construction Wiremen, however, can not work on any federal or state funded job.

Whether you have never worked in the electrical industry or have some experience but feel you need to further you education in the industry to learn the theory and application of electrical work, the Tidewater Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee can provide the education you need to become a well rounded journeyman wireman.

Here is the downloadable application for a Journeyman Wireman Electrician. You must have a minimum of seven years of experience to become a journeyman, verified with a detailed work history from social security. Drivers licence, journeyman or masters license, and any other certifications are needed when you apply. Construction Electrician |

Thank you for your inquiry to the Construction Electrician program. This is for anyone who has some experience in the electrical trade, yet not profecient in all areas of the trade. As a CE, you would work side by side with both journeyman wiremen and apprentices. CE's, however, are not able to work on federal installations.
