This summer, our work outlook continues to be good, with few people out of work. There are several long term projects coming up that will employ our members as well as several travelers. I attribute the continuous success of Local 80 to our members. Each member goes to the job promoting the Attitude, Skills, and Knowledge of a trained union electrician. Your continued involvement makes it easy to sell the contractors on the fact that you are the best journeymen available. They can be confident that, regardless of what job they bid, you will always give them eight hours work for eight hours pay. As we continue through this year, I challenge each of you to attend union meetings and functions and get to know your Brothers and Sisters. Lean on each other in bad times and celebrate together in the good times. Through the union, I have made lifelong friends and it feels good to know that the brotherhood is here for me. I look forward to seeing each of you at union meetings and at the upcoming picnic. Continue to enjoy your summer and stay safe.
Fraternally,
Matt Yonka

May is already here and we are almost half way through the year. Our work continues to be good however due to some recent layoffs from one of our larger projects we do have some brothers out of work. We have several large, long term projects about to start that will employ all of our member’s and possibly travelers. Our contractors are becoming more successful everyday and the memberships desire to prosper is extremely important. It shows that our member’s reenergized attitude and involvement are the key to our success. Local 80 will not settle anymore to just exist but our future is that of great accomplishments and we can do it together. I am looking forward to everyone’s continued support and I look forward to seeing all of you at the June union meeting.

We are well into 2007 and work continues to be extremely good with several projects on the horizon. As our work increases so does our membership and market share. For the first time in our history through a joint effort, Local 80 and the JATC have been able to successfully start a second first year class in January. If you happen to be working with any of these apprentices or new members be sure and give them a warm welcome. I am looking forward to another prosperous year and to working with all brothers and sisters to continue the task of making sure all workers in the entire electrical industry are members of our great organization. Don’t forget there is a union meeting March 6th, I look forward to seeing all of you there.

Seasons Greetings Brothers and Sisters!
Wednesday, November 15, 2006

Another year has come to an end and it has been a great one for Local 80. Our work has been good and we have a lot to be thankful for. We have been able to grow and have welcomed many new members and new contractors to our ranks. As we look forward to the holidays, I am reminded of just how important family is to the success of our mission in everyday life. I know that without the support of my wife and children, I would not be where I am today. The holidays are a special time to bring everyone together. Please join your IBEW Local 80 family at the Children’s Christmas Party on December 2nd. This event is a special tradition for me and my family. My wife has gone every year since she was a baby and now we enjoy taking our own children. We hope to see you there as we celebrate the beginning of the Holiday Season. Anyone who is interested in donating their time to make it another great success should contact me at the hall. I know that 2007 will be a great year with many new ideas and changes. I challenge everyone to make a New Year’s resolution to become more active and support your local union IBEW 80. Have a safe and happy holiday season.

Fraternally,
Matt Yonka

DUES INCREASE
Wednesday, November 15, 2006

At the 37th IBEW Convention in September 2006, the delegates voted to increase International per capita dues by $1.70. Therefore, effective January 1st, 2007, dues paid for the year 2007 will be $25.70 per month. Please keep this in mind when paying dues into the year 2007. And please remember that timely payment of dues is your responsibility.

DEATH BENEFIT ASSESSMENT DUE
Wednesday, November 15, 2006

XIII, Sec. 5 of Local 80’s By-laws states: “A $2.00 assessment will become effective upon the death of each member in good standing and the entire amount will be paid to the beneficiary. The Local Union shall not be liable for more than the amount of the assessment received in each death of a member.” The membership voted “to assess each member $20.00 to pay the death benefit for the next ten (10) members and to make additional assessments due upon notification by the local union that the fund has decreased to $3,000.00.” Our last assessment was in April 2004. The balance in the fund is now $3,366.18. Each member is required to pay this $20.00 as per Local 80’s by-laws. Pensioned members who participate in the plan prior to their retirement may continue to participate providing they pay the death benefit assessments when the same become due.” Unfortunately the time has come to notify each member that the $20.00 assessment is now due. This assessment can be paid with your regular dues payment but please do not combine this payment with any payments to the credit union.
